Wonder of Walking & Your Well-Being

Walk Your Way to Greater Coherence and Enhanced Well-Being

We mostly take walking for granted as we go about our day. It is the means to move from one place to another as need be. Yet, if you’ve spent time with anyone who is unable to walk or has difficulties to move freely, you become very grateful if you are able to walk without pain or struggle.

Walking is a gift, a gift that keeps on giving you benefits throughout your life. This simple activity connects you to what is below your feet with what is above your head. One historical concept of coherence was thought of “as above, so below” or “as below, so above.”

When you understand how much the gift of walking can give you, you are likely to take more walks and appreciate the value of walking as you move between the ground and sky.

Walking can:

  • Improve your physical well-being.
  • Uplift your mental state.
  • Soothe your emotions.
  • Enhance your spiritual awareness.
  • Support your awareness of coherence.
  • Increase your creativity and problem-solving skills.
  • Give your day a much-needed pause from busyness.

The wonder of walking can be enhanced as you consider the 3 principles that develop greater coherence:

  • Acknowledge What Is
  • Appreciate What Works
  • Attend to What Matters

Begin by acknowledging what surrounds you, such as the natural beauty of where you are walking. Take in your environment using your senses of sight, hearing, smell, and touch. Give your full attention to what surrounds you.

Then, find something that you can deeply appreciate and take a deep breath. This could be a tree sprouting new buds, birds flying by, or just how amazing it feels to move your body. Marvel at the complexity, be astonished by colors, and explore what you have acknowledged more closely until you feel a sense of wonder.

The next step is to release your breath as you let your mind focus on what really matters to you. This is when your mind can expand, and you can gain clarity, insight, and solutions.

Developing more coherence by frequent walks is vital to the various aspects of your well-being. Take a walk today, tomorrow, and every day and you will experience the wonder of greater well-being.
